FAQs

Have questions about therapeutic massage? You’re not alone. This section addresses common questions to help you feel informed and at ease before your session. Learn what to expect, how to prepare, and how therapeutic massage can support your overall health, healing, and well-being.

  • How often should I receive a massage?

The ideal frequency for massage therapy varies from person to person. Your therapist will work with you to determine a schedule based on your wellness goals, lifestyle, and specific concerns.

  • Do I need to be completely undressed?

Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, this is entirely your choice. You should always undress only to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped throughout the session. Chair massage and Thai massage are performed fully clothed and can be a great introduction to bodywork.

  • Will the therapist be in the room while I undress?

No. Your therapist will step out of the room while you undress, settle onto the table, and cover yourself with the clean linens.

  • Will I be covered during the session?

Yes. You will remain properly draped at all times to ensure comfort, warmth, and privacy. Only the area being worked on will be uncovered.

  • What areas of my body will be massaged?

Before your session, you and your therapist will discuss your goals and any areas of concern. This will determine which parts of your body receive treatment. A typical full-body massage may include the back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders. Massage never includes contact with the genitals (male or female) or breasts (female).

  • How will I feel after my massage or bodywork session?

Most clients feel deeply relaxed following a session. Many experience relief from long-standing tension or discomfort caused by stress or repetitive movement. After an initial period of calm, you may notice increased energy, improved awareness, and enhanced productivity that can last for several days. Because massage helps release toxins from soft tissues, drinking plenty of water afterward is recommended.

  • Are there medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inappropriate?

Yes. Prior to your session, your therapist will ask general health questions to ensure your safety. It is important to share any medical conditions, recent surgeries, or medications you are taking. If you are currently under a doctor’s care, a written recommendation may be required before receiving massage or bodywork.

Massage may be contraindicated for individuals with certain conditions, including:

    • Certain forms of cancer
    • Phlebitis
    • Some heart conditions
    • Certain skin conditions
    • Infectious diseases
